I am just as guilty of it as the next girl. This thing called “fat talk”. In our society there are so many pictures, advertisements, expectations, etc. sending us the message that we need to look a certain way or be a certain size to be considered “skinny”. This creates the mentality from a young age that we are somehow not worthy, not skinny enough, or don’t look the “right way”. We are products of our society and the pressures existing. It is sad, but it is the reality. Does it have to stay that way, though?
You might find this movement interesting. Special K has started a movement to “shuuuuttt down fat talk”, and the movement is called Fight Fat Talk. Check out the link below for more details:
I am also posting two other items addressing fat talk and the affects that it can have on shaping girl’s view of themselves in our society. Just remember the affect that your words and actions can have on shaping how young girl’s view themselves and how that view will carry on into their adult lives.
